Liverpool FC's sustainability programme, The Red Way, has won the Sports Sustainability Award at this year's prestigious International Sports Awards.

The Red Way has been praised for its unwavering commitment to sustainability through sport. By focusing on the three strategic pillars of people, planet and communities, LFC staff, fans and partners work together in a way to foster a meaningful and lasting impact.

Renowned as the leading sustainability programme in world football, The Red Way has made significant strides towards achieving 14 of the UN's Sustainable Development goals since its introduction in 2021.

The strategy is intertwined into every layer of the club's operations, demonstrated by key milestones including 94 per cent of the club's operations now running on clean energy. In addition, LFC Foundation has made a substantial community impact by supporting 127,000 people throughout the 2023-24 season, with a commitment to support 500,000 people every season by 2030.

Driven by a significant increase in fan awareness and positive behaviour change, plastic-bottle recycling on matchdays has soared from 25 per cent to more than 90 per cent. Additionally, 90 per cent of LFC Retail packaging and materials adhere to sustainability guidelines due to the support of suppliers aligned with the club's sustainability objectives and carbon-reduction targets.

The annual International Sports Awards celebrate 15 years of commanding excellence and innovation across the global sports industry, highlighting remarkable contributions that have shaped the future of sports business.

Rishi Jain, director of impact at LFC, said: "It is an honour for The Red Way to be named Sports Sustainability winner by the International Sports Awards. This recognition reflects the collective efforts of the entire LFC community.

"Through this programme, we hold ourselves accountable to deliver on our commitments and challenge ourselves to continually push boundaries and strive for greater impact."

The Sports Sustainability Award will officially be presented to the club at the International Sports Convention, taking place on March 19/20.
