Warriors welcome past players for season opener Wigan Warriors

Over 100 Past Players from Wigan Warriors, Leigh Leopards and Wigan Athletic will be present at Thursday evening’s ‘Battle FOR the Borough’ Betfred Super League opening fixture at The Brick Community Stadium.
The invitation sent out to the Past Players was well received and all three clubs will be represented by players going back to the early 1960’s. All the Past Players will be meeting up at Robin Park pre-match and then they will take their places in the West Stand for what promises to be a great opening night to the new season.
Among those present with be former Wigan Full Back, Ray Ashby, who was the joint winner of the Lance Todd Trophy in 1965 in the Challenge Cup win over Hunslet. Ray was a guest of the Club on Monday morning when he was presented with his International Cap for winning two caps for Great Britain in 1964-65. Back in the day for a player to be awarded a cap, he had to play two games in the same calendar year but thanks to work done by Club Historian Keith Sutch, Graham Mayor and Dave Swanton who managed to organised The RFL and RL Cares to award a cap to Ray.
Other past Wigan players due to attend on Thursday include Dom Manfredi, Colin Tyrer, Andy Gregory, Dennis Ramsdale, Nicky Kiss, Steve Hampson, Kevin Brown, Phil Clarke, Colin Clarke and Nick du Toit whilst former Leigh players include Allan Rowley, Alf Wilkinson, Paul Topping, Stuart Donlan, Simon Baldwin and Jason Donohue and Wigan Athletic players include Peter Atherton, Neil Bailey, Alan Johnson, Tommy Gore and Dave Glenn.
