Vicky Pattison emotionally admitted 'I know it has ruffled some feathers' after addressing the explosive backlash to ‘leaking’ her own deepfake sex tape for her new documentary.
The 37-year-old appeared on ITV's Lorraine on Tuesday to talk about her upcoming Channel 4 doc Vicky Pattison: My Deepfake Sex Tape.
Vicky decided to create and share her own explicit video, created by artificial intelligence, to highlight how much of a growing issue it is.
But after it was revealed, many criticised her decision and an abuse victim and campaign group condemned the former Geordie Shore star's decision.
Chatting with Lorraine Kelly, 65, on the show, a teary Vicky addressed the negative reaction and said: 'I think first of all, I completely understand that this has been a divisive way to go about sharing the information about deep fake AI and also to try and spread awareness.
'I know that we have been loud, we've been deliberate and I know that it has ruffled some feathers.

'But anybody who feels any type of way about it, I completely understand their feelings. They are valid.
'I'm not trying to trivialise them.'
Vicky continued: 'The stats are there. The figures are there. In 2024, there were more, there were over double the amount of deep cake videos that were in 2022.
'There is over 300 of these new apps now within a month of one of them launching 6,000 nice normal women had their pictures deepfaked.'
Earlier this week Vicky broke her silence on the backlash and she admitted that she questioned whether releasing it was the 'right thing' to do.
Speaking to The Sun, she explained: 'The video itself has always been the part of the documentary I’ve wrestled with the most.
'So it isn’t a decision I made lightly, and it is one that I struggled with right until the end. Like, right until Sunday night I was asking - am I doing the right thing?
'I completely understand some people might be angry and upset about what we’ve done and I in no way want to diminish that.

WHAT ARE DEEPFAKES?
The technology behind deepfakes was developed in 2014 by Ian Goodfellow, who was the the director of machine learning at Apple's Special Projects Group and a leader in the field.
The word stems from the collaboration of the terms 'deep learning' and 'fake,' and is a form of artificial intelligence.
The system studies a target person in pictures and videos, allowing it to capture multiple angles and mimic their behavior and speech patterns.
The technology gained attention during the election season, as many feared developers would use it to undermine political candidates' reputations.
'I’d never want to trivialise victims’ feelings'.
The TV star announced the news of her upcoming documentary on Instagram.
Vicky said: 'I’ve done something I never thought I would ever find myself doing: I’ve created & released my own deepfake sex tape for a brand new documentary coming to @channel4.
'Directed & produced with actors to ensure full consent, this was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever made. Why?
'Because I wanted to experience—even just a tiny fraction—what victims of this horrifying & ever-growing trend go through.
'I wanted to expose the devastating reality of deepfake pornography: content made without consent, created with alarming ease using readily available technology, stripping women of their dignity & control, & leaving their lives in pieces.
'This isn’t just technology gone rogue; it’s abuse. And it’s thriving.
'In 2024, explicit deepfake videos reached record numbers & unsurprisingly over 90% of the victims were women.
'Yet, as this insidious trend grows, society & lawmakers are doing shockingly little to stop it.
'Women are being violated in the most intimate & dehumanising way, & the world just scrolls past.
'We’re told AI has so many benefits that will help to save the world—reducing human error, detecting cancer, saving time.
'But here’s the truth: AI is also fueling a new frontier of abuse. Without urgent legislation, education for young people, & action from tech giants, this nightmare will only get worse.
'Violence against women isn’t new. The issue of consent isn’t new.

'But deepfake abuse? This is a terrifying evolution of an age old tale. A tale of power, control & the exploitation of women.
'This is why I’ve teamed up with Channel 4 & @potatoitv to make a documentary that confronts this issue head-on.
'It explores the darker side of AI & features the unbelievably brave women who’ve survived this new form of degradation & violence.
'Their stories are heartbreaking, but they’re also a testament to the strength it takes to reclaim your life after something so horrific.
'This film is my plea for action. We need stronger laws.
'We need tech companies to step up. We need society to wake up.
'We cannot let this become the cost of progress.
'Stand with us. Speak out. Fight back.'
