Report: Sheffield Wednesday 2-2 Bristol City Bristol City FC
Nahki Wells and Ross McCrorie helped Bristol City come from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
Djeidi Gassama and Di’Shon Bernard scored for the hosts, but the Robins completed their comeback in the 86th minute, sharing the points between the two sides.
City are back in action on Saturday, January 25th (3pm) against Blackburn Rovers at Ashton Gate.
Scott Twine won a free kick in the 11th minute, which he struck directly at the Owls’ wall from 30 yards out.
Five minutes later, the hosts found the opener. Some tidy footwork from Barry Bannan would see him evade the press of Max Bird and find Yan Valery who fired a first-time cross low into the box which Gassama slotted accurately into the bottom corner.
Bannan curled an effort from outside the area but couldn’t test Max O’Leary who held his effort firmly.
Then, Yu Hirakawa found Twine on the edge of the area who tried his luck but shot over.
Referee James Linington cautioned Twine on the 27-minute mark for a late challenge in the middle of the park.
In added time, goalscorer Gassama and Bannan combined well before the latter forced a top save from O’Leary with his curled effort from just inside the area.
Six minutes into the restart, Wells equalised after Rob Dickie sprayed the ball to Mark Sykes whose cross found Wells to head home from close range.
Two minutes later, the Owls regained the lead. Windass played Bannon who picked out Bernard. His touch took him inside the area before he found the far corner.
City made a triple change just after the hour mark which saw Sam Bell, George Earthy and Anis Mehmeti replace Twine, Wells and Hirakawa.
The Robins piled on the pressure and found an equaliser four minutes from time after Luke McNally kept Sykes’ cross alive, heading back across goal for McCrorie to head into the back of the net.
Bell came agonisingly close to the winner two minutes later, rattling the crossbar with a volley from close range.
McCrorie and Sykes made way for Haydon Roberts and George Tanner as the game entered seven added minutes.
Despite a late attack from the. hosts, the points were shared.
