Sarah Beenys uplifting message to people diagnosed with breast
Television presenter Sarah Beeny has shared a supportive message to other people living with breast cancer, after she received her diagnosis in August last year

Property guru Sarah Beeny has opened up about her gruelling breast cancer treatment in her deeply personal Channel 4 documentary, Sarah Beeny vs Cancer.

The one-off film, which airs tonight on Monday, June 12 at 9pm, explores her journey with cancer after she was diagnosed with the disease in August last year.

Sarah admits on the show that she has "lived in fear" ever since her mum sadly died of breast cancer at the age of 39, when she was just 10 years old.

"I'm just not gonna die, you do know that. I've got a whole life. I need it. I've got four children. People need their mother. The truth is, I kind of needed my mother," she says.

The 51-year-old explores the reality of breast cancer treatment in the UK, while dealing with her own journey to recovery, after three lumps were discovered in her left breast.

Sarah shows the ups and downs of living with cancer, from her sons cutting her hair short to getting a wig fitted by the NHS.

At the end of the documentary, Sarah signs off with an uplifting message for other people diagnosed with the debilitating disease.

"The chances of surviving breast cancer have doubled in the past 40 years, and that only gets better and better the more that is understood," she says.

"So many people are so scared. It's that fear that keeps a lot of people away from going and checking things out and getting treatment.

"So trust your body and go and get it checked out at a proper breast clinic.

"If you get the diagnosis that I got eight months ago, my message would be, just, don't be afraid. Because amazing people are doing amazing things and the outlook is getting better every day."

Last week, Sarah opened up about receiving the 'all-clear' on ITV's This Morning, though she explained that she prefers to use the term "end of treatment".

She is no longer scared of breast cancer and urges others not to be

"I was so scared of getting cancer, and now I'm not scared of cancer," she told Holly Willoughby and Josie Gibson.

The star revealed that hearing her diagnosis made her automatically think of dying, as she shared: "They say 'you've got breast cancer' but what you hear is 'what kind of coffin would you like?'"

She urged all viewers who have any suspicions about lumps to go and get them checked out, because "the earlier the diagnosis, the better the outcome".

Sarah Beeny vs Cancer airs at 9pm on Channel 4 on Monday 12 June.
