43 min: What a howler from Palace…

Mitchell takes a throw-in from Everton’s half. He throws it to Lerma, who just lets the ball run behind him, seemingly thinking a team-mate will take it. Instead, Alcaraz picks up possession and the visitors find themselves two-on-one. The midfielder plays a pass across to Beto in the middle, who slots home past a helpless Henderson.

And just like that, Everton head straight to the other end of the pitch and Beto breaks the deadlock!

41 min: Wow…

Richards somehow squeezes his way through at least three Everton defenders before tapping the ball to Mateta in the box. The striker plays a pass to Lerma right in front of goal, but the midfielder somehow rattles the crossbar with his shot! How did he not score?!

39 min: It’s been a tightly contested game so far with both teams having some good opportunities. Palace have had 59% possession so far as opposed to Everton’s 41%.

36 min: Sarr receives the ball on the right and plays it into the box. Devenny attempts to get a touch on it but can’t and instead the ball runs through to Mateta. The striker can’t seem to get it out of his feet and Tarkowski eventually comes across to steer it away. The centre-back goes to ground following an apparent trip from Mateta and Everton have a free kick.

34 min: Alcaraz goes for another shot from outside the box, but this time his effort flies over the crossbar and into the crowd.

32 min: Just as Henderson looks to get back into the game following treatment from the physios, Alcaraz attempts to catch him out with an audacious shot, but the goalkeeper gets down to claim it relatively comfortably.

29 min: Another chance for Everton as Harrison crosses the ball to Lindstrøm in the box. The winger plays a first-time pass across the six-yard box to Beto, but Henderson gets a crucial touch on it.

In doing so, the goalkeeper collides with Lacroix and takes a big knock to the head. Luckily, it is not serious and he is able to get back up.

27 min: Gueye wins the ball from Hughes in midfield before playing it forward to Harrison on the left, but nothing comes of the attack and Crystal Palace can regain possession.

25 min: Lerma launches a long throw into the box as Palace desperately attempt to get something on it. It’s a bit scrappy, but Everton can eventually clear the danger.

23 min: Chance for Everton now as Harrison sends a low-driven cross into the box. It runs through to Lindstrøm on the other side and the threat eventually fizzles out.

21 min: Confirmed – no goal.

20 min: Lerma has the ball in the net… But it won’t count!

A slightly bizarre one – a corner is sent into the box for the Palace midfielder to head in, but it appears to go out of play before it reaches him. VAR is double checking…

19 min: Another chance for Palace! A cross is sent into the Everton box and Guehi is there to head it towards goal. Pickford gets down to make a great save.

18 min: Crystal Palace break forward as Hughes makes a run through the middle with the ball. The midfielder is eventually brought down by Harrison, who is perhaps lucky to avoid a yellow card.

15 min: Guehi finds Muñoz on the right with that long pass once again. This time, the wing-back looks to cross but can’t find Mitchell.

12 min: The long, diagonal ball has been a key feature in this match so far. We’ve probably seen at least five or six in these opening stages, with Guehi’s attempt the latest.

9 min: O’Brien looks to play Lindstrøm down the right hand side, but his pass rolls out for a throw-in, much to the joy of the home supporters.

7 min: Big chance for Crystal Palace as defensive errors from Tarkowski and Branthwaite allow Mateta a clear shot at goal, but Pickford makes a fantastic save to keep the Frenchman’s shot at bay.

6 min: Palace attempt the long ball now as Guehi plays a pass across field to Muñoz, who looks to go short to Sarr. However, the forward is offside.

3 min: Another long pass is launched forward by the visitors, this time to Beto. The striker looks to cross the ball into the box but it flies out for another Palace goal kick.

1 min: Everton look for an early spark as a long ball is sent over to Lindstrøm on the right, but it runs just out of reach and behind for a goal kick.

During his pre-match press conference, Everton manager David Moyes said: “Over recent years, everybody’s brought Everton back down to Earth. So, why don’t we try to keep Everton high for a wee while? Isn’t it good there’s positive talk about Everton for a change. We’re getting great support, people behind us.

“I’m going to try to keep things upbeat as much as I can.”

Discussing today’s match, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner said: “Not just against Liverpool, Everton are doing really well, especially under David Moyes. Also before the Merseyside derby, in the last 16 Premier League games, they conceded just 13 goals, so even before, they’re very well organised, very physical, very direct in their play, dangerous in set plays and this is what we will face, so I expect a very physical game, many duels.

“Then it’s a similar game that we played against Brentford. The teams maybe neutralised each other for many parts of the game, but then I’m pretty sure we will get our two, three, four, five moments where we can score, and then it’s take these moments, take these chances, and then I think we have a good chance to win.

“We want to win more and we didn’t win so much at home, and the next chance is tomorrow to get the turnaround.”

Next Wednesday will mark exactly one year since Oliver Glasner took over from Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park. Reflecting on his first year with Crystal Palace, Glasner said: “First of all, it feels like it was four to five months! Time rushes and it’s been quite busy, but I enjoyed it from the first day. I’ve always had great support from the club, from the players, from everyone, and that’s made it really easy. It’s football life, and I think it’s life in general, that there are some moments where they are challenging.

“We had this especially at the beginning when we arrived and we it had a second time at the beginning of this season, due to different reasons, but there was always a great togetherness and a great support, everybody supported each other, we always stayed together, and I think now we have good times again, and we enjoy it!”

Speaking of the Merseyside Derby, some fans were quick to criticise Everton for over-celebrating their last-gasp equaliser. I personally think it was great to see. All too often nowadays we see so many people looking down on others who are simply enjoying themselves, especially in football. If you can’t celebrate a moment like that, what can you celebrate?

Everton are without Abdoulaye Doucouré this evening due to the midfielder’s suspension. Doucoure was sent off at the conclusion of Wednesday’s Merseyside derby after he celebrated in front of the visiting Liverpool fans, sparking a huge melee.

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was also shown a red card, as were Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff.

In addition, both clubs were charged with failing to ensure their players and/or occupants of their technical areas did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way following the final whistle.

Hello, good afternoon and welcome to coverage of Crystal Palace vs Everton in the Premier League.

Both teams will be high in confidence going into this mid-table clash. Prior to their 2-0 FA Cup victory over Doncaster earlier this week, a Jean-Philippe Mateta brace inspired Palace to a 2-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, there is a good chance that David Moyes and Everton are still buzzing as a result of Wednesday’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Liverpool - more on that a bit later on.

Should Moyes and Co win today, they will knock both Tottenham and Manchester United down a position in the table, which could make tomorrow’s highly-anticipated match-up between the two clubs even more interesting.
