Netherlands face Poland to begin day three at Euro 2024 with both sides looking to pick up early momentum in Group D. Both teams will contend in Hamburg without some of their star players. The Oranje have been deprived of midfield playmaker Frenkie de Jong due to an ankle injury ruling him out of the tournament, while Poland striker Robert Lewandowski has been named only sub for the opening game.
Ronald Koeman, who has turned to Cody Gakpo to lead his team, remains bullish about his side’s chances: “In principle we still have a strong squad now. I think that we have been a little unlucky with quite a few injuries during the past year and also for sure a lot of injuries to players who were more than valuable for the national team.”
Matches against Austria and France will follow this clash, meaning both teams will be eager to bank points to secure a cushion in pursuit of a place in the knock-out stages.
