Peter Kay has fallen victim to a cruel death hoax for the third time asTwitter users continue to falsely speculate that the comedian has passed away.

The hashtag #RIPPeterKay was trending on Friday morning after people wondered once again if the 46-year-old had passed away and others reassuring them that he hadn't.

Memes started to circulate and fans wrote: 'Don't worry folks #RIPPETERKAY is not true. He is alive and well and is just another hoax.''

#RIPPETERKAY is a hoax, do not fall for it. If it was it would of been everywhere. The legend still lives on.'

'#RIPPETERKAY ... People of UK, he’s safe! ... How quick did these ‘memorial videos’ pop up though, are you on standby for it?'

For some reason, it's not the first time this has happened.

In March 2018, speculation rose after the comedian famed for his love of Blackpool and famous garlic bread joke cancelled a tourdue to 'unforeseen circumstances'.

He also said he needed to put his 'family first' and after he continued to stay out of the spotlight, people falsely claimed he had passed away.

And just weeks before that, in another eye roll moment, formerEverton and England footballer Peter Reid wrongly posted that Peter had died.

The 62-year-old uploaded a picture of Peter Kay’s Wikipedia page which claimed he had passed away on February 4.

He wrote: 'Oh no can't believe this. RIP.'

But it seemed as though another man called Peter Kay had died in 2013, leading to the confusion.

Last month, it was reported that Peter had amassed a £32million fortune, despite his extended absence from the showbiz world.

His Goodnight Vienna Productions company is reported to have made £23.7m last year, according to The Mirror.

Meanwhile, another one of his production companies, Hussein Traders Limited, has netted the comedy legend £8.3m.

Peter recently revealed his popular sitcom Phoenix Nights is coming to the big screen in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The funnyman has rarely been seen since cancelling a £40million 109-gig sell-out UK tour in December 2017.

He hadn't tweeted in six months until last month, when he revealed the exciting news.

He wrote: 'It is almost 19yrs since the Phoenix Club first opened its doors. To celebrate that very special anniversary, both series of #PhoenixNights will be shown on the big screen for the 1st time in aid of @CR_UK.'

Peter later added another tweet, encouraging people to dress up for the event. The star said: 'Why not come on down to the Phoenix Club one last time to see Brian Potter, Jerry ‘the saint’ St Clair, Les Alanos, Max & Paddy and all the gang.

'In fact, why not go a step further and dress up as one of your favourite characters.'

The special screenings will take place in London and Manchester, with funds raised from ticket sales going towards the cancer charity.

Peter was last a mainstay on the small screen with his BBC show Car Share and his last appearance on stage was at Blackpool Opera House last April, when he gave a brief introduction to a charity screening of the show.

Phoenix Nights series one will be shown at Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, London on January 3 next year, and the next day will play host to both series in the same venue followed by a screening of series two again in the evening.

Back in April, the funnyman was pictured for the first time in a year when he was spotted enjoying a tram ride in Blackpool on Easter Monday.
