Derby County handed new verdict on Norwich City controversy

Former Premier League referee Chris Foy says Lars-Jorgen Salvesen's first-half goal for Derby County against Norwich City should have stood.

The Norwegian striker thought he had scored his second goal for the club in the clash at Carrow Road when he buried a cross from Ben Osborn.

But the goal was wiped out for offside although video replays showed Salvesen was behind the ball when the cross was delivered into the box.

And now Derby's complaints have been backed up by Foy who gave his verdict in his Behind the Whistle column for Sky Sports.

Foy said: "This was the first of two offside decisions in the space of a couple of minutes in what was a fast-paced game, but unfortunately for me the assistant referee misreads this one and gets it wrong.

"As the ball is crossed into the box, we can see with the benefit of replays that the Derby County player who converts the chance appears to be behind the ball and therefore onside.

"With such a quickly developing phase of play, calls like this can be difficult to judge, but the correct decision here would have been to award the goal as the Derby goalscorer was not in an offside position."

It was the third controversial decision that Derby have suffered during a game with Norwich this season.

In the first game at Pride Park, which the Canaries won 3-2, Borja Sainz's opener should not have stood as the ball had gone out of play when Josh Sargent crossed the ball.

There was also a similar complaint for Norwich's third goal as Derby should have been awarded a corner but instead the Canaries launched a counter-attack as Sainz wrapped up his hat-trick.

Derby received a response from the PGMOL admitting an error for the first goal, but stood by the decision for the third.
