Marcus Rashford’s future has undoubtedly been one of the biggest stories of the January transfer window. The 27-year-old has constantly been in the headlines recently since being dropped from the Manchester United squad for the derby against Manchester City. Ruben Amorim was unhappy with Rashford’s demeanour and he was omitted from the matchday squad for four games before returning against Newcastle United but he's not been involved again since. And speaking after United's 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday, Amorim responded in damning fashion when asked about Rashford in a clear sign that any chance of reviving his career at Old Trafford appears near impossible.

"It's always the same reason - the training, the way I see a footballer should do in life. It's every day, every detail," Amorim replied when asked about Rashford's continued absence. "If things don't change, I will not change. It's the same situation for every player, if you do the maximum and right things we can use every player. "You can see on the bench we miss a bit of pace on the bench, but I would put [Manchester United goalkeeper coach Jorge] Vital before a player who doesn't give the maximum every day."Rashford is amongst the best paid players in England, which will limit the amount of clubs able to afford his wages - unless United heavily subside those costs. So where could Rashford end up if he leaves United in January? AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund have dropped out the race and we’ve analysed five potential destinations with interest from Turkey growing.

Six potential destinations for Marcus Rashford in January?

Türkiye

With Rashford's potential destinations decreasing by the day, Galatasaray and Fenerbache are the latest clubs to be linked. Relevo journalist Matteo Moretto has suggested that the Turkish giants are interested in the England international and could make a move before the end of the window. A loan deal until the end of the season could appeal to Rashford but it's been widely reported that his preference is to remain at a top five league club.

Barcelona

Rashford remains determined to remain in Europe at a top club and it’s understood that Barcelona is his dream destination. But any dream of a move to the Spanish giants appears unrealistic due to Barca’s well-documented financial predicament. Barca chiefs have repeatedly struggled to abide by LaLiga’s financial rules and they are currently experiencing issues in registering Dani Olmo. Raphinha has been excellent this season in Rashford’s preferred left-wing role but he could cover all three positions in Barca’s frontline.

Arsenal

The North London club have been linked with holding an interest in Rashford. Arsenal’s issues at left-wing have been glaring this season, although Gabriel Martinelli has displayed promising signs in recent weeks. United would traditionally be unwilling to sanction improving a rival but Amorim’s men are languishing in the bottom half with Arsenal second and they have different targets in the Premier League. Arsenal’s commitment to paying a proportion of Raheem Sterling’s wage on his loan deal from Chelsea could complicate a potential deal for Rashford but it remains a fascinating proposition.

PSG

PSG hold a long-standing interest in Rashford although speculation they could move for him in January have been shut-down by sources close to the French giants. PSG have a plethora of attacking talent with Desire Doue struggling for regular minutes and Bradley Barcola emerging as their main man on the left. Rashford would realistically be deployed as a striker under Luis Enrique and his availability will be very appealing as Randal Kolo-Muani is expected to leave and Goncalo Ramos hasn’t excelled in France.

Saudi Arabia

It was claimed that Rashford had turned down interest from several Saudi Pro League clubs but reputable Athletic journalist Ornstein played down these reports. Rashford’s wage demands wouldn’t be excessive for Saudi clubs and he represents a major coup as a high-profile player in what should be his peak years. But Rashford wants to remain in Europe and a move to Saudi this early in his career would be damaging to his legacy and that’s why the MLS is also an unrealistic destination.
