Solskjaer deserves credit for working out the way to get at Leeds is to take opposition players out of the game.

Their man-to-man system is reliant on that not happening but he’s picked a front three who are all happy to drop deep, receive the ball under pressure and try and turn, while it’s been a feature of the half to see Fred and McTominay driving past their men from midfield, which has immediately allowed them to run at the Leeds defence. It’s worked brilliantly so far.

James has done his job so far, and from a defensive point of view he does so again, blocking out for a corner.

If United get chastised when they play poorly, they deserve credit for how they're playing right now.

Very solid in midfield and incisive in attack. Leeds haven't handled them. Martial and Rashford combine before Fred's cross is cleared.

Fred slipped through Martial and it came out towards Fernandes, who struck it well into the corner.

Good pressure from United to bring the mistake and they have an even better start.

Bamford has it in the back of the net but is flagged offside. A deflection broke it towards the striker but he was well off by a yard or so.

Maguire cannot help but concede a Leeds corner under pressure from Raphinha.

Bielsa continues to look particularly angry while sat on his blue bucket. There is some very high pressing going on here, but United are playing quite nicely through the lines.

Bielsa is furious with Bamford after that. We’ve not had 10 minutes and this is the quintessential Covid game: goals and chances galore, with two coming for Leeds already. United need to go 3-0 or 4-0 up to be absolutely certain of winning this because they have been so fast and loose Leeds fancy their chances of breaching them.

Scott McTominay has played as an attacking midfielder under Solskjaer, in his first six months in charge, and played as a striker in the academy.

He’s restricted at times in a deep role but there’s no doubt he has goals in him. He can strike a wonderfully clean ball from the edge of the area and the timing of his run and finish from the second was exceptional. This is a dream start for United and there’s going to be more chances to come.

Leeds almost carve United open with a chance to hit back. A breakneck start from both teams.

Those pre-match predictions that there would be goals have all come true.

Maguire seemed to yell ‘f-----g yes’, or something to that effect. That was unsaveable from McTominay, marvellous technique to drill it into the corner with some curve on it. Scholes was United’s previous goalscorer against Leeds in the league and that was a strike he specialised in.

Maguire is geeing United up regularly. Even the uninitiated could guess he is from Yorkshire. This is a phenomenal start from United and Leeds have been as obliging as they have been for much of the season.
