Manchester United vs Leeds United live updates
Follow the latest updates as Man Utd host Leeds in the Premier League at Old Trafford this afternoon.

Manchester United take on Leeds United in the Premier League for the first time since 2004 today.

United have only met their trans-Pennine rivals in two cup games since Leeds' relegation from the top flight 16 years ago, but Marcelo Bielsa's side come to Old Trafford this afternoon (4.30pm kick-off) having impressed so far this season. The Elland Road club stormed to promotion from the Championship last season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has included Edinson Cavani on the bench as he made five changes from the United side that beat Sheffield United 3-2 on Thursday night. Daniel James, David de Gea, Fred, Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw all start.

Dean Henderson and Paul Pogba are among those who have dropped to the bench.

United XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; James, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.

Subs: Henderson, Telles, Bailly, Matic, Pogba, Mata, Van de Beek, Greenwood, Cavani.

GOAL

Leeds have a goal back. Cooper's header.

4-1.

Solskjaer loves Leeds

There's always goals.

United look so dangerous

The Lindelof goal came from a set piece, but in truth United have looked like scoring from almost every attack.

James and Alioski clash and the Welshman is penalised.

Solskjaer has worked Leeds out

Solskjaer deserves credit for working out the way to get at Leeds is to take opposition players out of the game.

Their man-to-man system is reliant on that not happening but he’s picked a front three who are all happy to drop deep, receive the ball under pressure and try and turn, while it’s been a feature of the half to see Fred and McTominay driving past their men from midfield, which has immediately allowed them to run at the Leeds defence. It’s worked brilliantly so far.

GOAL! 4-0

Lindelof makes it four.

37 mins, 3-0Dominic Booth

More attacks

Shaw brings United forward and tries to feed Rashford and only a last ditch Dallas tackles denied the left-winger.

35 mins, 3-0Dominic Booth

De Gea save

James has done his job so far, and from a defensive point of view he does so again, blocking out for a corner.

McTominay nods away and Raphinha's shot is saved by De Gea. A flag then goes up.... would have been interesting if that had gone in.

32 mins, 3-0Dominic Booth

Fernandes awry

United's turn for a corner, which this time is nodded away by Cooper, competing with Maguire.

Both sides prefer it in open play than from set-pieces, though Fernandes plays a poor pass this time.

No room for complacency

United’s defenders are getting complacent and Leeds have scored enough goals this season to punish them sooner or later. There is usually no coming back from 3-0 down but United might need to make it four just to be absolutely sure.

Already, some of the United substitutes (Matic, Telles and Van de Beek) are warming up.

30 mins, 3-0Dominic Booth

Still a test for defence

Fred brings United forward but James' speculative effort is blocked by white shirts. United look vulnerable when Leeds come forward, but they're just about doing the job defensively.

Wan-Bissaka defending

Another Leeds corner, sent in by Phillips and punched away by De Gea.

The visitors are still playing it around nicely enough but United are getting the interceptions in. Wan-Bissaka this time, then again in the air. Shaw conceds another corner.

25 mins, 3-0Dominic Booth

Half chance for Leeds

Another chance for Bamford goes begging. Klich with the cross after a decent Leeds move down the right, but headed over.

24 mins, 3-0Dominic Booth

United deserve praise

If United get chastised when they play poorly, they deserve credit for how they're playing right now.

Very solid in midfield and incisive in attack. Leeds haven't handled them. Martial and Rashford combine before Fred's cross is cleared.

The Fernandes effect

He continues to thrive.

21 mins, 3-0Dominic Booth

Great goal

Fred slipped through Martial and it came out towards Fernandes, who struck it well into the corner.

Good pressure from United to bring the mistake and they have an even better start.

KEY EVENT

3-0

FERNANDES!

It's 3-0 United.

19 mins, 2-0Dominic Booth

Bamford offside strike

Bamford has it in the back of the net but is flagged offside. A deflection broke it towards the striker but he was well off by a yard or so.

18 mins, 2-0Dominic Booth

Counter

Maguire cannot help but concede a Leeds corner under pressure from Raphinha.

It's swung in from the right, left-footed, and United come away with it.

United pressure

Alioski could be booked for a foul on Rashford but isn't. United settle for the free-kick, which is sent into the box by Fernandes.

Maguire was the target, but it came back to United's No.18. Fred then gives it away cheaply.

15 mins, 2-0Dominic Booth

Ferdinand's Fantasy?

Not many will have McTominay...

14 mins, 2-0Dominic Booth

Bright in midfield

Maguire with a decent run forward but he can't slip it through to James.

Leeds are giving it away quite a lot in the middle of the pitch, as Fred comes forward and Martial nearly threads it through to Rashford.

12 mins, 2-0Dominic Booth

Through the lines

Bielsa continues to look particularly angry while sat on his blue bucket. There is some very high pressing going on here, but United are playing quite nicely through the lines.

Rashford has switched to the right, James left.

9 mins, 2-0Samuel Luckhurst

Bielsa fuming with Bamford

Bielsa is furious with Bamford after that. We’ve not had 10 minutes and this is the quintessential Covid game: goals and chances galore, with two coming for Leeds already. United need to go 3-0 or 4-0 up to be absolutely certain of winning this because they have been so fast and loose Leeds fancy their chances of breaching them.

Bamford miss

Bamford heads tamely into De Gea' arms as a Leeds attack breaks down.

He then steers one wide after a good through ball.

7 mins, 2-0Tyrone Marshall

Great Scot

Scott McTominay has played as an attacking midfielder under Solskjaer, in his first six months in charge, and played as a striker in the academy.

He’s restricted at times in a deep role but there’s no doubt he has goals in him. He can strike a wonderfully clean ball from the edge of the area and the timing of his run and finish from the second was exceptional. This is a dream start for United and there’s going to be more chances to come.

5 mins, 2-0Dominic Booth

It's so open

Leeds almost carve United open with a chance to hit back. A breakneck start from both teams.

Those pre-match predictions that there would be goals have all come true.

4 mins, 2-0Samuel Luckhurst

Phenomenal start

Maguire seemed to yell ‘f-----g yes’, or something to that effect. That was unsaveable from McTominay, marvellous technique to drill it into the corner with some curve on it. Scholes was United’s previous goalscorer against Leeds in the league and that was a strike he specialised in.

Maguire is geeing United up regularly. Even the uninitiated could guess he is from Yorkshire. This is a phenomenal start from United and Leeds have been as obliging as they have been for much of the season.

16:35KEY EVENT

GOAL!

MCTOMINAY AGAIN! 2-0

3 mins, 1-0Dominic Booth

Dream start

A beautiful crisp strike from the midfielder in the second minute.

United had started brightly and that was just reward.

Dominic Booth

McTominay scores!
