M6 crash: One killed as lorry overturns in motorway crash

A Lancashire Police spokesman said the lorry travelling northbound crossed on to the southbound carriageway and hit a number of other vehicles.

He added: "Very sadly the collision has resulted in one fatality and a number of other serious injuries.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected at this time.

"Emergency services remain at the scene and the motorway remains closed in both directions between junctions 32 and 33 while we continue to deal with the incident.

"The closure is likely to stay in place for some considerable time so please check before you travel as diversions are in place."

Fans travelling to Preston for tonight's Championship football match between Preston North End and Sunderland have been warned by both clubs about traffic delays.
