Red alert for Portugal coach Roberto Martínez Diogo Jota injured ...

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota yesterday suffered a potentially serious injury in the English Premier League match against Brentford.

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota yesterday suffered a potentially serious injury in the English Premier League match against Brentford.

Jota had to be stretchered off late in the first half after the full weight of Danish midfielder Christian Nørgaard came crashing down on his knee after an aerial challenge.

The extent of the injury is not yet known, but Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp admitted post-match “it doesn’t look good for Jota.”

Portugal coach Roberto Martínez will be sweating on more news, with the Spaniard set to announce the squad for the 2024 European Championship in Germany in around three months’ time.

Jota has been in terrific form for the Reds since returning from an injury layoff earlier in the season.

He has been arguably Liverpool’s most important attacker during the absence of star player Mohamed Salah, who was out of action for several weeks owing to his participation in the African Cup of Nations and then an injury of his own.

Should the former Porto and Wolves forward be ruled out of the tournament, it will represent awful luck for 27-year-old Jota, who also missed World Cup 2022 through injury.
