Gary Lineker delivers three-word verdict on Diogo Jota injury that ...

Gary Lineker's assessment of Diogo Jota's injury would have done little to make Liverpool fans feel any better.

The Reds ace was forced off the field in the first half of Liverpool's win over Brentford. Jota had provided an assist for Darwin Nunez's opener before he saw the full weight of Christian Nørgaard land him in a challenge with Alexis Mac Allister.

Jurgen Klopp's side still managed a comfortable 4-1 thanks to goals fromMac Allister, the returning Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo but saw injuries suffered by Nunez and Curtis Jones too. Jota's situation will perhaps leave the biggest concern after he was taken off the pitch on a stretcher.

The Portuguese international left the Gtech Community stadium on crutches with his left knee in a brace. The forward's prospects of playing in the Carabao Cup final next weekend are firmly in doubt.

Speaking on Match of the Day, neither Lineker or Danny Murphy believed the prognosis looked promising. The former Spurs and England striker said: “That looked bad.” Murphy added: “It did, an innocuous, a landing on his knee. He looks like he’s going to be out for a while.

“Curtis Jones is a blow, he’s not the type of lad who comes off with injuries, so he’s probably going to be at least a couple of weeks you would imagine.

“Better news from what Jurgen says on Darwin Nunez because that he’s saying is more of a precaution. So, hopefully he’ll be alright for the final next week.”

Klopp provided an update on the injured trio following his side's three points. The German coach believes that Jota's injury looks to be the worst but was unsure of the severity of Jones and Nunez's issues.

He said: “Curtis got a knock on the lower part of his shin, or above the ankle. We will see what that means. It was what he felt, but he was not 100 per cent sure. That Curtis cannot play on tells you that it must be something because he would have played on at all costs.

“Diogo looks probably the worst; I didn’t see it back but I heard the pictures didn’t look great as well, so we have to see there.

“Darwin, we took off because he felt really a little but that was obviously today enough to immediately push the brake and that’s what we did, so we took him off and brought Cody on and that worked out really well.”
