Remembering Jon-Erik Hexum amid Alec Baldwin prop gun incident
A cinematographer has died and a director has been injured after actor Alec Baldwin discharged a prop gun on a film set. Following the reports, attention turned on late actor Jon-Erik Hexum who died from a prop gun in 1984.
Police officers have said that Alec Baldwin discharged the prop weapon during the filming of the upcoming film Rust in New Mexico.
The cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, was flown to University of New Mexico Hospital, but was pronounced dead, while director Joel Souza is currently being treated.

He was born in Englewood, New Jersey, to parents of Norwegian descent and started acting in small roles while he studied at Michigan State University.
After graduation, he moved to New York to pursue an acting career and met John Travolta’s manager Bob LeMond while he was working as a cleaner.
He relocated to LA and landed the role of Phineas Bogg in the NBC series Voyagers and later the role of Mac Harper in the series Cover Up.
Jon-Erik had also appeared in the ABC’s drama Hotel and the feature film The Bear.

Jon-Erik died on October 18th, 1984 from a prop gun while filming the series Cover Up.
Cast members and crew were filming the seventh episode of the show on October 12th when the accident happened.
The actor was pretending to play Russian roulette with a .44 Magnum handgun on the set when he shot himself in the head with the gun.
Jon-Erik passed away six days later at the hospital where he was pronounced brain-dead. He was only 26 years old.

With the permission and blessing of his family, the actor’s organs were donated and saved other people’s lives.
The actor’s heart was transplanted into a 36-year-old man, a Vietnam war hero, while his kidney saved a five-year-old boy.
