He collapsed to his knees and looked to the sky in celebration as his teammates ran over to console him.

During a post-match interview with LFCTV, Elliott explained the celebration and it all proved too much for him.

"Yeah I mean my nan passed away a few days ago, it’s just for her really and more importantly the three points," he said before wiping his face.

Elliott was then given a moment to compose himself before continuing with the interview.

He posted an image of his nan to Instagram at full-time and captioned the post: "That win was for you nan! RIP my queen."

The midfielder has featured in all four of Liverpool's games so far this season, starting the last three.

When asked about what he thought before his goal, Elliott replied: "Just shoot. I’ve sort of had a few chances here and there, especially in the Palace game, but luckily today the ball hit the back of the net.

"It was just a great feeling to score at Anfield, not just any goal but a goal like that.

"It’s always worth the hard work and to hear the crowd roar. For me personally, it’s great and hopefully many more to come."

Luis Diaz opened the scoring inside three minutes, before Elliott doubled the home side's advantage.

Trent Alexander-Arnold's thunderbolt just before the half hour mark was then followed up by Roberto Firmino's first of the game and a Virgil van Dijk header to make it 5-0 by halftime.

Things went from bad to worse for Bournemouth. Cherries defender Chris Mepham turned into his own net seconds after the restart before Firmino grabbed his second.

Fabio Carvalho scored his first Liverpool goal off the bench to make it eight and Diaz finished the scoring with another header five minutes from time.
