FANS have been left in disbelief over the transfer fee Manchester United paid for Alejandro Garnacho.

The Argentine winger will be hoping he can fire his side to FA Cup glory versus Manchester City this afternoon.

It has been a breakthrough year for Garnacho, who recently penned a lucrative five-year deal with the club.

But incredibly, United were able to pick him up for just a £100,000 compensation fee from Atletico Madrid last year, report The Athletic.

They claim that scout Gerardo Guzman flagged him to David Harrison, who is the Red Devils' head of youth recruitment.

And he liked what he saw and director of football John Murtough sanctioned the cut-price deal.

Fans have hailed the club for signing Garnacho, one said: "Biggest bargain ever."

Another added: "This is what we need to do more of rather than continuously wasting £100m on players."

A third reacted: "Well spent. Can’t remember the last time we spent wisely."

Some even joked that the amount it took to buy Garnacho is as much as some of his team-mates' weekly wages.

There has been other reports that the fee was closer to £500,000 for his signature.

If Man Utd win the FA Cup it will complete a sensational rise for Garnacho after he won the youth version of the trophy last year.

The 18-year-old wonderkid has netted five goals and registered six assists this season.

And he is enjoying life off the pitch too with his girlfriend expecting a baby.
