Fortnite update 30.00 patch notes: the apocalypse is here with ...

Epic Games has released the official list of Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 patch notes ahead of the new season going live today.

The Fortnite updae for Chapter 5 Season 3 has dropped today following the scheduled downtime with an apocalyptic wasteland taking over a portion of the map. Now that the Greek gods have gone into hiding, the map has become a lawless wasteland with players driving vehicles modded out with explosives and pointy bits all over the place, and creating new weapons like an explosive crossbow and nitro-powered fists.

Of course, Epic Games is always up for a crossover, and this season has three confirmed already. First off is the Fortnite x Fallout collab which is bringing the Brotherhood of Steel's T-60 Power Armor as a skin in the Chapter 5 Season 3 Battle Pass. Also coming to the battle pass later down the line is the X-Men villain Magneto who will be this season's secret skin.

Finally there's the Rust skin who is shown wearing a Metallica shirt which – paired with the new trailer using Fuel by Metallica as background music –further confirms the existence of the collab which featured in the Fortnite roadmap leak (which we're going to go ahead and say is totally legit with the launch of this season). Thanks to that leak we also know we can prepare for a Pirates of the Caribbean collab later in the season.

The following is the full list of the Fortnite update patch notes for Chapter 5 Season 3 as posted by Epic on the Fortnite website. We've broken them down into the facts you need, as Epic tends to fill the notes with a bunch of flavour text and lore.

New POI's

• Sandy Steppes – replaces Snooty Steppes
• Nitrodrome – replaces Fencing fields

New items

• Nitro Splash – consumable(puts you in Nitro buffed state)
• Nitro Fists – melee weapon (3x punch combo, uppercut, and aerial punch abilities)
• Boom Bolt – explosive crossbow (moddable)
• Nuka-Cola – consumable (restores health and shield)
• Tri-beam Laser Rifle – new weapon
• The Machinist's Combat Assault Rifle
• Ringmaster's Boom Bolt
• Megalo Don's Nitro Fists

Returning items

Epic has also confirmed some items returning to the game this season in today's Fortnite update. We'll start with the items that are getting balance changes with today's update:

Tactical Assault Rifle

• Increased damage at long distances.

• Reduced recoil.

• Reduced bullet spread.

Enforcer AR

• Increased damage.

• Increased fire rate.

• Increased critical hit multiplier.

Hand Cannon

• Increased damage at long distances.

• Increased projectile speed.

Vehicle mods

Vehicle mods have returned to the game with the Chapter 5 Season 3 Fortnite update. Cow Catchers and Chonkers Off-Road Tires are returning to the game alongside some new weapon mods. Here is the full list of vehicle mods joining the game today as listed in the Fortnite patch notes:

• Machine Gun Turret (roof slot): Have a passenger fire a machine gun while someone else drives!

• Grenade Launcher Turret (roof slot): Some would call this littering, but the Grenades will get rid of themselves by exploding.

• Spiked Bumper (front bumper slot): Deal more damage to players and objects on impact.

• Cow Catcher (front bumper slot): Boost your ramming power and give your car some defensive armor.

• Bulletproof Tires (tires slot): Tired of tire poppers? Make your tires indestructible!

• Chonkers Off-Road Tires (tires slot): Make your car more off-road friendly. Especially useful if you’re not driving an SUV!

You can attach vehicle mods by smashing into a Vehicle Mod Box (a cardboard box adorned by the logo of a specific item), and they will automatically attach. There are also Repair Boxes to smash into which will fix up your car in an instant. Plus you can find Repair Torches to do the job wherever your are. Petrol stations have also been fitted with Service Stations which will refill your cars health as well as refuel it.

Nitro

The Chapter 5 Season 3 Fortnite update introduces the new Nitro Splash and Nitro Barrels which can be used to infuse your character or vehicle with nitro, these have different effects depending on how you use it.

Nitro-fied car

• Driving speed increase
• Explosive ramming power that deals damage and knockback (must be driving at a sufficient speed)
• Fuel consumption decrease
• Buff to attached attack mods

Nitro-fied player

• Movement speed increase

• Explosive bashing power that deals damage and knockback… Bust through builds! (must be moving at a sufficient speed)

• Stamina consumption decrease (Sprint longer!)

• Reload speed increase

• Fall damage immunity

War Bus

Across the island there will be two patrollers driving a War Bus this is a massive bus rigged with cannons and an EMP horn that harms enemy shields and disables vehicles. Players will be able to take control of these during a match.

New Medallions

• The Machinist's Medallion (found at Redline Rig) – regenerates shield over time
• Ringmaster Scarr's Medallion (found at Nitrodrome) – gives you infinite ammo and a small damage buff
• Megalo Don's Medallion (found at Brutal Beachhead) – gives you infinite Nitro

All three bosses' Medallions open a garage holding one of their cars, all three of which have infinite Nitro from the get go.
