BURTON Albion Community Trust will be hosting some walking football games with an international flavour as the World Nations Cup comes to the area.

The games at the Community Football Centre coincide with the tournament taking place at St George’s Park from August 24-26

Teams from as far afield as Saudi Arabia and Singapore will be heading to St George’s Park for the World Nations Cup which will feature over 50s and over 60s tournaments.

The Pirelli Stadium is hosting some warm-up and showcase games with fans welcome to come along and watch with no admission charge.

The Brewers own walking footballers will also be in action, playing Northern Ireland in a friendly match and Burton Albion Community Trust is hoping to use the games to attract more participants.

BACT Chairman and walking football participant Phil Pusey said: “Having played walking football for about five years now in an atmosphere I would describe as friendly but competitive, the benefits of connecting with other guys of a similar age and stage of life have been both general health and fitness, as well as feeling part of a community with a shared love of football.

“There are sessions on various days at different times throughout the week with some playing competitively as well, and because the standard varies considerably anyone and everyone can join in.  I'd encourage people thinking about it to get involved whether it be for health, fitness or friendship reasons.”
