And that’s all from me. Bye!

“A football match had to be halted because of apples thrown onto the pitch?” muses Peter Oh. “Which set of hooligans is to blame? Braeburn Rovers? West Bramley Albion?”

Burton Albion FC (@burtonalbionfc)

73. Slight pause in play as some apples that have been thrown onto the pitch from...somewhere?...are picked up by a core member of staff.

After a brief peel away from the action, we're back underway. #BAFC

Ben Fisher was at the Vitality Stadium to see Bournemouth hit the Championship ground running:

This was not the most resounding victory for Bournemouth but, given how they flitted in and out of a topsy-turvy game, there could be no argument that Arnaut Danjuma’s emphatic winner six minutes from time was deserving of winning an occasionally hairy contest. It is fair to assume Danjuma, a £14m signing from Club Brugge last year, did not dream of his first Bournemouth goal being in the Championship, let alone behind closed doors. But his star turn proved the difference in victory over a dogged Blackburn Rovers, who twice levelled through Bradley Johnson and Adam Armstrong.

I have a couple of match reports for you! Firstly, Paul MacInnes was at Selhurst Park to see Palace bank three precious points:

A reminder on day one that the Premier League is not only here for the flowing football and the end-to-end attacks. Sometimes it’s also about relentlessly attritional football decided in a few key moments. Much to no one’s surprise, Crystal Palace’s first home win of the season fell into the latter category.

Wilfried Zaha’s close-range finish at the end of a Palace counter decided a contest of limited goalscoring chances, but relentless commitment. An adventurous Southampton side will point to two fine Vicente Guaita saves to suggest they should have taken something from the contest, but once Palace took the lead in the 13th minute, they looked largely comfortable.

The last match to end is at Sunderland, but after six minutes of stoppage time (and a George Dobson red card in the last of those) there’s no splitting them and Bristol Rovers. Sunderland had 72% of possession, 24 shots to their opponents’ five and 11 corners to Rovers’ three, but were nevertheless held 1-1. Elsewhere in the Football League, matches have finished with the following scorelines:

Final score: Crystal Palace 1-0 Southampton!

It’s all over at Selhurst Park, and Palace have banked three precious points!

And nearly an equaliser for Southampton! Walker-Peters crosses, Ings heads, and Guaita makes an excellent save!

Crystal Palace keeper Vicente Guaita saves from Southampton’s Danny Ings.

4.54pm BST16:54

Nearly a second for Crystal Palace! Zaha picks up the ball on the halfway line, sprints past Stephens with embarrassing ease, but shoots into the side netting!

4.52pm BST16:52

The big match in League Two between Salford and Exeter has ended with honours very much even at 2-2, with three goals in the first half. With a total of 27 shots it looks like both teams did quite a lot of attacking.

4.50pm BST16:50

They’re into the first of six VAR-inspired stoppage-time minutes at Selhurst Park. Southampton started the second half excellently but couldn’t capitalise, and neither side has looked much like scoring for quite a while now.

4.48pm BST16:48

Chris Maguire has equalised for League One favourites Sunderland against Bristol Rovers, collecting a weak clearance on the edge of the area and shooting into the corner. Meanwhile in Scotland: “Congratulations to Micky Mellon’s Tangerine Army as Dundee United make history by choosing not to score at Ibrox, thus allowing Rangers to record a seventh consecutive clean sheet at the start of season 2020-21,” writes Simon McMahon. “Well done United, what a team!”

4.44pm BST16:44

Phwoar! Arnaut Danjuma blasts a lovely shot across the keeper and into the top corner to give Bournemouth the lead against Blackburn for the third time - it’s 3-2 now!

4.42pm BST16:42

Goal disallowed! A ball over the top of the Southampton defence finds Zaha and Ayew running clear. Ayew was definitely offside but I thought Zaha seemed to have timed his run pretty well, however the linesman’s flag goes up as soon as he tucks the ball into the net and VAR confirms that he had an offside upper torso as he set off on his sprint.

4.39pm BST16:39

It looks like Harrogate will end their first weekend as an active Football League team at the top of their division - they’re now 4-0 up at Southend.

4.33pm BST16:33

The game between Fleetwood Town and Burton Albion is tied at 1-1, but has just had to be halted because of a number of apples thrown onto the pitch from outside the ground.

4.31pm BST16:31

In Scotland Rangers lead 3-0 at home to Dundee United and well on their way to that clean sheet record and Celtic are 4-0 up at Ross County.

James Tavernier slots home Rangers’ second goal of the game.
Shane Duffy rises highest to head home Celtic’s third goal.

Here’s an explanation for that puzzling Derby County booking:

David Anderson (@MirrorAnderson)

A first here at Derby against Reading. Nathan Byrne has been booked for illegally coming on as a sub to replace Andre Wisdom at half-time because fourth official Oliver Langford forget to officially introduce him with his electronic board. What a start to his Derby career!

4.26pm BST16:26

Penalty appeal! Che Adams goes down at Selhurst Park as Kouyate came across to challenge, but he does so a little too easily and the referee doesn’t buy it.

4.20pm BST16:20

Reading have just come close to a third at Derby, but Joao’s volley hit the bar. Meanwhile, I’m not sure what happened here:

Derby County (@dcfcofficial)

47' Nathan Byrne enters the field in place of Andre Wisdom for his Derby County debut.

Byrne is booked in the process by referee Darren Bond.
