BBC viewers divided as Strictlys Anton du Beke and Giovanni
Strictly Come Dancing stars Anton du Beke and Giovanni Pernice have teamed up again to deliver another rousing series of their travel diaries for the BBC.

Fans of Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice were left divided as the pair teamed up to present the latest instalment in their travel series. Anton & Giovanni’s Adventures in Spain returned to BBC One on Monday night (March 18) but not everyone was impressed with the offering.

Following the success of Anton & Giovanni’s Adventures in Sicily last year, the Strictly Come Dancing duo are back to their globetrotting ways. In this series, the pair head to 57-year-old Anton’s motherland, Spain, to explore his heritage.

The first episode of the travelogue saw Giovanni, 33, and the Strictly judge heading to Sevilla, Marbella, and Ronda among others. While visiting the Spanish hotspots, the pair raced gondolas, had a close shave with the authorities, and even found time to produce a rousing sing-a-long dance number in a courtyard.

Elsewhere, Anton revealed he’d spent “more time” with the Italian than his own wife recently, before the duo were blown away by a Flamenco dancer. Later on in the series, Anton and Giovanni are expected to try becoming cowboys, before meeting up with fellow professional dancer Gorka Marquez.

Following the first episode of Anton & Giovanni’s Adventures in Spain being broadcast, viewers took to social media to have their say. One viewer headed to X, formerly known as Twitter, and wrote: “That singing and dance sequence is the campest thing I've seen.”

A second commented: “Love Anton and Giovanni just bursting into song and dance. This is why I love just such pure joy.”

“Oh my god this is dreadful!! #AdventuresInSpain,” wrote a third.

Another typed: “#AntonAndGiovanni one of the worst travel shows I've ever seen.

“Good Lord this makes Jane McDonald look good,” said a fifth.

A sixth viewer wrote: “#AdventuresinSpain showing that Ronda, the Caminito del Rey, Granada and countless other places are the real of Andalucia, not Marbs. Run don’t walk mi gente.”

Ahead of their epic road trip show being aired, Giovanni opened up about meeting Gorka, 33, out in Spain.

He told What to Watch: “Gorka showed us where he is from and we did some surfing together. But watersports are not our thing!"

He added: "But we did traditional Basque sports with Gorka and it turns out I’m wiry but strong!”

Anton & Giovanni’s Adventures in Spain will return to BBC One next Monday at 9pm. All three episodes are available to stream on BBC iPlayer now.
