Tragic teenager Tiggy Hancock who died after an accidental a Dublin equestrian centre during the week has been described as a “beautiful little girl” by just one of many people who have left condolences to her. 

he 15-year-old of Corries, Bagenalstown, Co Carlow who died “following a tragic accident” according to her death notice on RIP.ie, was the “beloved daughter of her heartbroken parents Frank and Jane and cherished sister to Eliza and Lucy”.

The noticed adds: “Deeply regretted by her parents, sisters, uncles & aunts Peter, Richard, Lillias, Serena, Angela, David, Alice, Kate, Tom & Katya, cousins Charlie, Felix, India & Elsa, godparents Linda, Clem, Nick, Andrew & Allegra, Ann Minchin, friends of the equestrian community young & old & her many school friends.”

In the condolences section people have left many heartfelt messages to her family, with one person writing that Tiggy was a “beautiful little girl”.

“Our deepest sympathies,” they have written. “Many fond memories of Tiggy's early years. A beautiful little girl.”

Another has written: “I have such fond memories of Tiggy in St. Mary’s it's just heartbreaking my thoughts are with Jane Frank Eliza and Lucy at this very sad time.”

“We are so desperately sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved Tiggy. Thinking of you all,” another has added.

“To Tiggy's heartbroken family and friends my deepest and heartfelt sympathies at this heartbreaking time. There are no words just to know so many are thinking of beautiful Tiggy and your lovely family at this time. Fly high Tiggy and rest,” adds another.

Yesterday Horse Sport Ireland said it extended “deepest sympathies to the family of Tiggy who died on Wednesday afternoon, following a tragic accident at a squad training event in Greenogue”.

“Tiggy was a highly talented young athlete and a respected member of our Pony High Performance Eventing Programme,” the tribute reads.

“A keen equestrian for many years as a member of the Carlow and Kilkenny Hunt Pony Club and very successful Working Hunter Pony competitor, Tiggy only began Eventing in the autumn of 2018, making an immediate mark on the sport.

The tribute adds: “Tiggy was well-liked among both junior and senior members of the Irish equestrian family and her passing will be mourned by all. The Hancock family are known throughout Ireland for their commitment to the equestrian community and those who know them will share in their grief.

“The loss of a young person is all always particularly hard to comprehend. This will be a difficult time for many of Tiggy’s team mates and friends in the sport. Horse Sport Ireland have a designated support person to assist individuals affected, and would encourage them or their parents to come forward to seek support.

Earlier the owner of the equestrian centre where Tiggy was injured also led tributes to the youngster.

Lucy Mc Carthy, the owner of Greenogue Equestrian posted the tribute on her Facebook page.

It reads: “Following yesterday’s tragic accident in the equestrian centre, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the young rider involved. She will be sadly missed by everyone in the equestrian community.”

In a series of comments people have responded with one writing, “Very sad news , thinking of the family and friends.”

Another adds: “Such a horrible tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends and with the whole of the equestrian community.”

One other person has written: “Such a tragedy…my thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and the equestrian community."
