Netflix fans in the UK are up in arms as the streaming giant announced yet another price hike.

Subscribers to Netflix's Standard tier will see their monthly bill increase by £2, with the popular plan now costing £12.99. Meanwhile, the Premium plan, which is the most costly option, will rise by £1 to £18.99 per month.

Even those on the ad-supported plan aren't safe from the surge, as it receives its first price increase, going up by £1 to £5.99.

Disgruntled customers have taken to X to express their outrage, with some calling the move "daylight robbery". One user exclaimed: "Netflix raising their prices again??? Who do I tussle with?!" While another added: "How can Netflix put their prices up AGAIN? They haven't even got anything worth watching on there, only have it so I can binge watch The Office."

A third chimed in: "The daylight robbery that Netflix is committing is very irritating. Start the email talking bout how loyal of a customer we've been to then tell us prices are hiking up AGAIN."

Some subscribers are even considering cancelling their memberships in protest, with one saying: "Netflix increases their prices every six months. I'm cancelling lol. I just wanted to watch one show anyway." Another declared: "Netflix putting their price up again for no reason? Yeah might be time to quit."

The platform has updated its website to showcase the new, higher prices, which affect both new and existing subscribers. It comes after it also recently axed its no-frills Basic plan, in an aim to shift more users towards its ad-supported tier.

Members can expect an email notification shortly with details on when the new pricing will kick in, based on their billing cycle.

A spokesperson for the streaming service said: "As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can reinvest to further improve Netflix."

The increase also hits those who share their accounts - after enforcing a ban on password-sharing, adding an extra member outside one's household will now set them back £5.99 instead of £4.99. Moreover, an additional member on the ad-supported plan will now cost £4.99, up from the previous £3.99.

This price rise follows a previous escalation in October 2023, where the basic, ad-free plan jumped from £6.99 to £7.99 per month, and the premium plan increased from £15.99 to £17.99.
