DORTMUND, Germany -- Germany's Euro 2024 round-of-16 clash against Denmark in Dortmund on Saturday was suspended for around 22 minutes due to a thunderstorm that led to the players being taken off the pitch as a result of lightning.
English referee Michael Oliver halted play in the 35th minute of the game at Borussia Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park after loud thunder and lightning preceded a heavy downpour of rain.
Players returned to the pitch and resumed play after a brief warm-up.
The game was tied at 0-0 at the time of the suspension. Germany defender Nico Schlotterbeck had seen a goal ruled out in the fourth minute following an infringement by teammate Joshua Kimmich.
Germany went onto win 2-0 to reach the quarterfinals, with the game suffering no further delays,
