Boosted Everton host West Ham on Saturday at Goodison Park as Sean Dyche’s side are delighted with gaining four points back.

Their appeal to the 10-point deduction they received for breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSRs) saw four points given back to them as they now sit five points clear of the relegation zone. Everton still have another charge for breaching PSRs hanging over them but the clarity over the first charge is what they’ve wanted for some time. On the pitch they’ve drawn five of the last six and if they could be more ruthless in attack they’d be pushing to a top 10 finish. Even with the points deduction. Overall the mood is relief at Goodison Park as Evertonians now believe Premier League safety is a real possibility.

West Ham will be feeling relieved too as they beat Brentford 4-2 on Monday for their first Premier League win of 2024. David Moyes needed that and having Lucas Paqueta back from injury is a huge boost too. The Hammers have a favorable draw in the Europa League last 16 against Freiburg to look forward to and the chance to kick on and push for European qualification in the Premier League. Despite their recent poor run, things aren’t so bad for West Ham.

Alvarez dinks home to seal the win - Everton 1-3 West Ham (95th minute)

Bowen sets up Alvarez on the break and he dinks home to seal the win.

What a goal from Soucek! Incredible strike - Everton 1-2 West Ham (91st minute)

Pure class from Soucek as the ball is hung up to the back post and he chests it down before smashing home. West Ham’s fans go wild. It looks like they’ve won it with a moment of magic late on.

Pickford is at it now

Kudus is in over the top and beats two Everton defenders and somehow stays on his feet but Pickford charges out and shuts down the angle as well as tackling Kudus with his feet before celebrating wildly. Pickford is loving it. So are the Everton fans but that was too easy for West Ham.

What a stop from Areola, again!

He’s having a superb game. Beto’s deflected shot loops high into the air and looks like it’s going into the far corner but Areola claws it away.

Hammers equalize through Zouma - Everton 1-1 West Ham (62nd minute)

James Ward-Prowse whips in a brilliant corner (of course he does) and Zouma heads home from close range to equalize. Totally against the run of play.

Areola denies McNeil from close range

It should be 2-0 to Everton. The ball drops to McNeil in the box but his shot is brilliantly blocked by Areola who throws himself at it. Everton are all over West Ham.

Beto heads home Garner’s stunning cross - Everton 1-0 West Ham (56th minute)

A brilliant cross from James Garner on the right finds Beto unmarked six yards out and he heads home to send Goodison wild. What a huge goal that is for the Toffees and Beto makes up for his penalty kick being saved.

Areola with a great stop

That is a beauty of a strike from Dwight McNeil as he controls a volley from distance which is bouncing and sneaking in to the bottom corner but Areola makes a fine stop.

Half time: Everton 0-0 West Ham

A very tight, even game at Goodison and Areola’s wonderful penalty stop to deny Beto just before the break is the main talking point. Beto did not look confident stepping up and although is penalty was okay, Areola made a wonderful save down to his left. All to play for.

Penalty to Everton... but Areola denies Beto

A cross into the box hits Zouma on the arm and after a lengthy VAR check a penalty kick is given. That is harsh on Zouma. Beto steps up to take the penalty but Areola denies him with a really good stop. What a huge moment that could be in the game.

Big chance for the Toffees but Beto wastes it

Lovely build-up play from Everton and Beto is in but he gets his shot all wrong and his tame effort is easily saved by Areola. Moments later Harrison’s cross causes chaos but West Ham clear.

Slow start at Goodison as Jordan Pickford pushes away an effort early on and Beto had a chance at the other end. Very even game, as expected.
