Everton vs Tottenham: Prediction, kick-off time, team news, TV ...
Tottenham begin life without Antonio Conte away at Everton’s Goodison Park tonight needing at least a point to get back into the Premier League’s top four. Spurs currently sit fifth but could capitalise on Manchester United’s loss at Newcastle in their first game under the interim management of Cristian Stellini.
The Italian has previously impressed when standing in for Conte but the pressure really is on now. Stellini faces a fight to get Spurs over the line in the race for Champions League qualification and anything other than a win on Merseyside against an Everton team currently in the bottom three would be a huge disappointment.
Spurs went into the international break off the back of a disappointing draw at Southampton but the hope will be that Conte’s exit lifts the mood somewhat. Follow all the action with Standard Sport’s dedicated match blog, Dan Kilpatrick will be providing expert analysis from the ground!
46 mins: Gueye robs Dier in a dangerous area but skies hit shot over the bar.
Second-half begins at Goodison Park.
Harry Kane has twice gone close for Spurs but neither side have found a breakthrough yet.
Both teams are missing a bit of quality and a final ball, Spurs in and around the penalty box and Everton when they are trying to counter. The first goal feels crucial here and Spurs will be frustrated at those missed Kane chances if they don’t get it before the interval.
37 mins: Very, very sloppy in midfield from both teams with so many passes given away.
30 mins: Doucoure skies a free header right above the bar from a good position. Should be doing far better there.
Conte is gone but Spurs suddenly have an eye-catching pair of wing-backs. Perisic has put in dangerous cross for Kane and Porro already, while the Spaniard looks a real threat going forward.
17 mins: Lots of action from box to box but not a lot of attacking quality on offer in the opening 20 minutes or so.
Stellini’s Spurs are in a familiar shape but they are playing with an urgency that wasn’t always a feature of their first halves under Conte. There have already been chants for Mauricio Pochettino from the away end, which is likely to be a feature of the run-in -- at least until Spurs name a permanent manager.
09 mins: Harry Kane swivels on a shot and a slight deflection takes it above Pickford but the England ‘keeper manages to recover.
