Everton faces Peterborough United in the FA Cup third round on Thursday evening just hours after making the decision to sack Sean Dyche after a dismal run

Everton areturns to Goodison Park for the first time in 2025, hosting Peterborough United in the FA Cup on Thursday evening. The pressure on Sean Dyche has finally told after Everton confirmed his sacking, hours before kick-off.

A five-game winless streak didn't do Dyche any favors, despite three consecutive draws against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City seeming impressive at the time. The Friedkin Group has decided to make the change with Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman in charge for the game.

Everton takes on League One side Peterborough. Managed by Darren Ferguson - son of Manchester United legend Sir Alex, Peterborough have had a challenging season after finishing in the play-off spots last term.

Currently, the Cambridgeshire-based team sit 19th in League One, creating a 46-place gap between Everton - who are 16th in the Premier League - and Peterborough in the English football hierarchy.

Everton's FA Cup clash with Peterborough is set for Thursday, January 9 at 7:45pm GMT (2:45pm ET). The two sides have only faced each other once before in a competitive match, back in the League Cup in September 2006, where Everton emerged victorious with a 2-1 win at London Road.

This means that tonight's game will be Peterborough's first and only appearance at Goodison Park in their 91-year history.

For those in the UK, the match can be viewed live on BBC iPlayer, BBC Red Button and the BBC Sport Website. If you're unable to catch it live, highlights will be available on YouTube afterwards. The match is not available for live TV broadcast in the United States.

The FA Cup coverage is split between BBC and ITV throughout the season, allowing fans nationwide to enjoy the matches free-to-air.
