England will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing start to their Nations League campaign with a win over Germany

England suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Hungary in their opening UEFA Nations League fixture against Hungary on Saturday evening and will hope to bounce back as they face old rivals Germany in Munich on Tuesday night.

The Three Lions have a tough group which also includes Italy and will take on Germany for the first time since their 2-0 win in the last-16 of last summer's European Championships. However, the Germans have undergone a change in leadership since then, with Champions League winner Hansi Flick taking over from Joachim Löw after last summer's disappointment.

They drew 1-1 in their opening fixture against Italy but remain undefeated under their new boss and have embarked on a new era by comfortably qualifying for the Qatar World Cup this winter.

Defeat for England would mean that they would face an uphill struggle to survive in their group with home fixtures at Wembley to come against European Champions Italy and their conquerors from the weekend, Hungary. Relegation in a competition which has been criticised by many, including Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne may not seem like a big deal but city teammate John Stones disagrees.

The Belgian described the tournament as 'unimportant', citing player welfare but Stones launched a defence of the tournament on Tuesday when speaking to the press in Munich.

"I speak on my personal experience when I was out of the team, like any other player it hurt, you want to be here and you have to deserve to be here," he said. "So when you’re here you’ve got to make the most of it, to play in big games like this you can only cherish the moment and maximise the chances in front of you.

"We can’t control our fixtures and when we’re playing, we have to look at the positive side and go with it. I see it as a massive learning curve and a big step in the right direction to set us up for the World Cup."
