While the Premier League champions are clear favourites of course, Pep Guardiola is not taking the challenge of Bristol City lightly.

“They have no defeats in their past 12 games,” he said. “That gives me a lot of information.

“It means they are there, and the scouts there are a good team. Their manager has a lot of experience and I know him from when he managed Leicester and Watford.

“It’s always tough when you go away from home against a Championship team. At home, it would be different but we are going to fly there tomorrow, try to do a good game and to go through.

The FA Cup quarter-final draw takes place on Wednesday night, with Wembley drawing ever closer for those still in the competition.

On Wednesday night, Tottenham travel to face Sheffield United, while Manchester United, fresh off their Carabao Cup success at Wembley, are at home to West Ham.

Bristol City actually edge the historical head to head, but have lost five of the last six meetings dating all the way back to 1979.

The two sides have met in the League Cup three times this century, with Manchester City winning 2-1 in 2007 and then triumphing in both legs of a semi-final back in 2018.

Cup ties against lower-league opposition have generally been a walk in the park for Manchester City over recent times, with a number of absolute maulings coming to mind.
