Strictly Come Dancings Angela Rippon visibly shocked by judges
Presenter Claudia Winkleman said she could 'feel' Angela's shock following her Charleston

TV presenter Angela Rippon was left in shock after harsh taskmaster Craig Revel Horwood passed judgement on her dancing during tonight's Strictly Come Dancing

The 79-year-old and her dance partner Kai Widdrington danced the Charleston to the tune of Murder She Wrote, with Angela playing the intrepid detective Jessica Fletcher.

The Halloween special saw Plymouth-born Angela stick to a sensible pair of slacks and a shirt in stark contrast to the ghosts and ghoulies her fellow dancers dressed up as but there was no mistaking the audience's pleasure at their routine.

What did come as a surprise were the words that poured forth from tetchy Professor Snape-look-a-like Horwood who told Angela: "That, my dear was a swivel masterclass". Angela - and the audience - were suitably gobsmacked at the high praise, which was followed by similarly approving comments from fellow judges.

However, the big shock came later when Angela and Kai raced up the steps to join their fellow contestants.

Asked to give his score, Craig raised a very unexpected "9" which left Angela screaming "What!!!" and Kai roaring his joy at the almost perfect result. While the three fellow judges all responded with eights, it was Craig's honour which most amazed the two dancers.

Presenter Claudia Winkleman responded with the observation that stunned the crowd: "Craig scored higher than the other judges! I don't think he's ever done that. I think he did it once eight years ago."

She then turned to Angela and said: "I can feel your shock and I'm loving it!"

The results of the public vote will be revealed tomorrow night, Sunday, October 29, on BBC1.
