The biggest rivalry in soccer might be writing its last chapter today in Saudi Arabia. Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami club will take on Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr in the Riyadh Season Cup in a game that American audiences can watch over a late lunch break.

The Messi-Ronaldo rivalry is a far shot from its heyday more than a decade ago, when the two faced off with Barcelona and Real Madrid in epic El Clasico and Champions League matches each year. Messi, 36, holds the lifetime lead over his 38-year-old rival in 36 head-to-head matches with 16 wins against 11 losses with nine draws, and he's got a tight 22-21 edge in goals, as well.

Fans are hoping Ronaldo will be fit enough to play in the much-anticipated showdown. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner injured his calf before the team's scheduled preseason matches in China.

The rosters of the aging superstars' current teams will be even more nostalgic for soccer fans. Messi, who has won a record eight Ballon d'Ors, brought former Barca running mates Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez with him to his MLS club, while Ronaldo's Saudi side also features former Liverpool star Sadio Mane.

Inter Miami is still looking for its first win of 2024 as it warms up for the start of the MLS regular season. Miami lost 4-3 on Monday to Al Hilal, which includes star players Neymar and Aleksander Mitrovic. Messi and company will continue their tune-up in Hong Kong and Japan before returning to Florida for the MLS season to kick off on February 21.
