CM: Milan’s decision to persist and seal €1m deal with Chelsea paying off

AC Milan eventually managed to get their man when they signed Olivier Giroud from Chelsea in the summer, and he is turning out to be worth the long negotiations.

Calciomercato.com report how last summer the Milan management – with the support of Pioli – bet strongly on signing Giroud. They first thought that they would be able to sign him for free when his contract expired, but then Chelsea extended it, though a conversation with the player persuaded the Rossoneri to keep pushing.

In the end they paid the London club €1m to sign Giroud which is almost derisory and represents token compensation considering the strengths that the forward still has at 35 and the many things he has won.

In 2022 he decided the match against Roma, scored a crucial equaliser against Genoa in the Coppa Italia and sent the Rossoneri fans into ecstasy with a brace in the derby against Inter.

The latest goal was the winner against Napoli last night, his first away from San Siro, as his instinctive finish beat Ospina. That one million given to Chelsea could become one of the best deals made by Milan in some time.
