An explosive audio clip appears to reveal Amber Heard admitting to physically abusing her ex-husband Johnny Depp by beating him with pots, pans and vases.
A series of taped conversations obtained by the Daily Mail are reported to capture the Aquaman actress, 33, in 2015 confessing to physical tantrums and Depp, 56, telling her the violence has to stop.
The recorded couple attempted to work through their marriage problems.
As they discussed her outburst from the previous evening, she says: "I'm sorry that I didn't, uh, uh, hit you across the face in a proper slap, but I was hitting you, it was not punching you. Babe, you're not punched.
"I don't know what the motion of my actual hand was, but you're fine, I did not hurt you, I did not punch you, I was hitting you."
Heard is known as an avid advocate for victims of domestic violence, and a passionate women's rights ambassador.
In the recording, the Mail reports, she can be heard taunting Depp, saying: "You are such a baby. Grow the f**k up, Johnny.
"You poke an animal enough, it is eventually, it doesn't matter how friendly it is, it's not cool."
Heard filed for divorce in May 2016 after accusing Depp of domestic violence 18 months after they tied the knot.
More than two years later, she wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post about how she “faced our culture’s wrath” for speaking up against violence.
Depp then sued Heard for $50million (£37.8m) for defamation, after she claimed she had received death threats and lost out on work after accusing him of domestic abuse.
And if their reportedly recorded row is anything to go by, Depp's willingness to save his marriage was tainted by the physical arguments.
He is allegedly heard telling Heard: "I left last night. Honestly, I swear to you because I just couldn't take the idea of more physicality, more physical abuse on each other.
"Because had we continued it, it would have gotten f**king bad. And baby, I told you this once. I'm scared to death we are a f**king crime scene right now."
But Heard's apparent response is heard loud and clear: "I can't promise you I won't get physical again. God I f**king sometimes get so mad I lose it."
In the defamation lawsuit reported in the US, the actor claimed Heard threw a vodka bottle at him and caused the bones in the tip of his right middle finger to shatter a month after they wed.
He also claims that he was dropped from Pirates Of The Caribbean just four days after her piece was published in the Washington Post.
In court documents obtained by American entertainment magazine The Blast, Depp's team say: “Ms Heard purported to write from the perspective of “a public figure representing domestic abuse” and claimed that she “felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out” when she “spoke up against sexual violence.”
His suit says he's the victim of an "elaborate hoax" that was allegedly instigated by Heard to generate positive publicity and advance her career.
It claims: "Ms Heard is not a victim of domestic abuse; she is a perpetrator.
"She hit, punched and kicked me. She also repeatedly and frequently threw objects into my body and head, including heavy bottles, soda cans, burning candles, television remote controls and paint thinner cans, which severely injured me."
The recorded conversation reportedly includes the pair discussing their argument from the previous day, with Depp accusing Heard of getting "f**king violent" before hitting him in the jaw.
She apparently tells him: "You hit back. So don't act like you don't f**king participate."
Depp responds with: "I pushed you."
The Pirates Of The Caribbean actor is believed to have he sent a message to his building manager Travis to come to their house because he was afraid the fight would escalate.
He said: "I said to you, 'hey tell Travis what just happened'... And that you that you punched me in the f**king thing... In the face'. And you said, 'no I f**king didn't. What the f**k are you talking about?' And I watched you lie."
The voiced reported to be replies: "I didn't punch you. I didn't punch you, by the way. . . I'm sorry that I didn't, uh, uh, hit you across the face in a proper slap, but I was hitting you, it was not punching you. Babe, you're not punched."
Depp recalls: "Don't tell me what it feels like to be punched."
Heard says: "I know, you've been in a lot of fights, been around a long time. I know, I know. Yeah."
Depp fires back: "No! When you have a f**king closed fist."
Heard responds: "You didn't get punched. You got hit. I'm sorry I hit you like this. But I did not punch you. I did not f**king deck you.
"I f**king was hitting you... I don't know what the motion of my actual hand was, but you're fine, I did not hurt you, I did not punch you, I was hitting you."
But Depp is then heard pleading: "If things get physical, we have to separate. We have to be apart from one another.
"Whether it's for f**king an hour or 10 hours or f**king a day. We must, there can be no physical violence towards each other.
"All I'm saying is we need to take whatever time we need. You need, I need, to kind of let things settle for a minute.
"So that we don't f**king kill each other or f**king worse, you know, f**king really kill each other or f**king break up or whatever."
The pair are then heard reconciling, as Depp tells her: "Let's do our best to fix what's broken within the machine. The machine that is us.
"I love you and I want you to be my wife. And I want to be your husband. And I want to be a good husband."
Heard responds with: "I love you. I know so we can be so good."
She filed for divorce months later.
The estranged couple eventually agreed to a $7million divorce settlement in August 2016.
Fans rushed to Twitter to begin the movement hashtag of #JusticeForJohnnyDepp - as fans back the Hollywood actor following the tape recording.
