An insurance company has filed a lawsuit against Scottish football legend Ally McCoist and his son, following a car accident in which the latter drove an Audi A1 without insurance and hit a pedestrian. The victim, Stephan Murdoch, suffered a serious brain injury in the incident, which took place in Renfrewshire in December 2016. After Argyll’s conviction, Murdoch won a £200,000 payout and £44,000 in legal expenses from insurance provider Aviva.

Aviva is now seeking to recover this money by suing McCoist and his son for £244,000. The company contends that McCoist is liable because the policy did not cover Argyll and he did not take adequate steps to prevent his son from driving the car. McCoist has denied the allegations and is contesting the lawsuit.

McCoist has said that he had taken the keys to the car from his son and explicitly told him that he was not covered to drive it. He also sent an email to his ex-wife Allison to tell her the same thing.

McMurdoch was taken to hospital after Argyll ran a red light and hit him while driving the Audi A1. He remained in hospital for a week and had to use crutches for six months. He suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain as a result of the collision.

In September 2018, McCoist pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and causing serious injury by driving dangerously. The presiding judge, Sheriff Colin Pettigrew, gave McCoist a 280-hour unpaid work sentence and ordered him to be electronically tagged for six months as part of a restriction of liberty order. McCoist was also banned from driving for three and a half years.

The case is ongoing, and no further comments are being accepted on this article at this time.
