Virgin Media customers left without internet as provider suffers ...

Virgin Media is working to fix an issue that has left many customers unable to get online.

The telecoms giant said on Monday it was aware of "intermittent issues" with its services and apologised to customers, adding it was working to solve the issue as a "priority".

The company has not confirmed what has caused the issue.

More than 9,000 reports of issues have been made since 11am, according to service status website Downdetector, with the majority saying their internet services have been affected.

In a statement, the company said: "We're aware that some customers are experiencing intermittent issues with their services," a Virgin Media O2 spokesperson said.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and are working to fix this as a priority."

'Not helpful'

Many affected customers also took to social media to report issues with their services, with one describing the connection as "all over the place".

Another wrote: "Why on a Monday of all days."

A third questioned whether the company would reimburse them for the mobile data they have had to use in order to access the internet.

"I hope you're going to reimburse me for my data I have used today, being with O2 data and having my own Virgin Media broadband down I am using all of my data that I have left... not helpful," they wrote.

Virgin Media merged with O2 UK back in June 2021.

The deal involved US media firm Liberty Global, the owner of the Virgin Media cable TV and broadband provider, joining forces with Spanish firm Telefonica to create a £31bn company.

Virgin Media reported having 5.7 million broadband customers at the end of its second quarter in 2024 - many of whom also buy mobile and pay-television services from the company.
