List of schools in government's free breakfast club roll out

The schools are out of 750 announced by the government today

Twenty three schools across the Liverpool City Region have been included in the government's roll out of free breakfast clubs for all children out of 750 schools across the country. Nearly 11,000 pupils across the North West are expected to benefit as part of the first phase of the scheme.

105 schools in the North West will be offered the scheme from April which is focusing on the most disadvantaged communities. The government said this would put £450 a year back into parents' pockets.

Following on from promises in its election manifesto, the Labour government said all primary aged children in early adopter schools will be able to access a free breakfast and at least 30 minutes of free childcare every day helping to support parents getting into work by dropping their children off half an hour earlier. Schools will be encouraged to offer healthy, varied and nutritious breakfasts, with examples from wheat bisks and porridge to fresh fruit and yoghurt.

Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said: "Free breakfast clubs sit right at the heart of our Plan for Change, breaking the link between background and success for families all over the country.

"Breakfast clubs can have a transformative impact on the lives of children, feeding hungry tummies and fuelling hungry minds, so every child begins the day ready to learn.

“Alongside our plans to roll out school-based nurseries and get thousands more children school-ready, this government is delivering the reforms needed to give every child, wherever they grow up, the best start in life.”

Wirral is set for the most schools in the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority for the new clubs to be rolled out with seven schools. These are St Paul's R.C. Primary School, Castleway Primary School, Heygarth PrImary School, Leasowe Primary School, Woodchurch Road Academy, Overchurch Junior School, and the Observatory School.

In Liverpool, St Vincent de Paul School, Fazakerley Primary School, and New Heights High School will all be offered to take part while Lander Road Primary and St Monica's Catholic Primary will be part of the scheme in Sefton.

Knowsley will see four schools included which are Eastcroft Park Community Primary School, Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School, Hope Primary School, and Blacklow Brow School.

In Halton, these schools included are St Martin's RC Primary, Hill View Primary, Palace Fields Primary School, and Kingsway Primary Academy School. In St Helens, Garswood Primary, Ashurst Primary School, and Pace are all expected to join the scheme.
